The Charles Crutchfield Papers include materials relating to Crutchfield's professional work at WBT, Jefferson-Pilot Broadcasting Company, and the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce. Materials are dated 1952-1978 and are arranged into 10 series:
Series 1: Audio/Visual, 1940-1990, includes cassette tapes, film, slides, and VHS tapes.
Series 2: Awards, 1970-1986, includes awards given to Charles Crutchfield during his professional career.
Series 3: Correspondence, 1947-1990, is the bulk of the collection and includes correspondence to a variety of people relating to events and programs.
Series 4: General, 1962-1990, includes miscellaneous items such as WBT company chronology, opinions, and WBT personality biographies.
Series 5: Interviews, 1974-1986, includes interviews of Charles Crutchfield.
Series 6: Photographs, contains a wide variety of photographs including past United States presidents, musical groups, and Billy Graham, among others.
Series 7: Programs, 1956-1959, includes materials relating to Crutchfield's involvement in public programming.
Series 8: Public Speaking, 1965-1996, includes all publicly-given and published addresses, editorials, essays, seminars, and speeches created by Crutchfield.
Series 9: Publications, 1948-1979, contains addresses, books, general, journal, newspapers, pamphlets, programs, and reports.
Series 10: Scrapbooks, contains 3 scrapbooks.

Abstract
Charles Crutchfield (1912-1998) started his career as an announcer and radio programmer for a variety of radio stations in the Carolinas. In the 1933 he joined the WBT staff, where he became famous for putting together the “Briarhoppers.” Crutchfield stayed at the station and its parent company until retiring in 1977 as president of the Jefferson-Pilot Broadcasting Company. He was also active in a number of professional and civic organizations, to include: a U.S. State Department appointment for a Special Mission to Greece, service as a representative of the broadcast industry on a tour of the former Soviet Union, and his election as president of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.
This collection contains audio/visual materials, correspondence, photographs, awards, reports, interviews, and other materials relating to Crutchfield’s professional career. Materials are dated 1936-1996 and are in good condition.

Materials within each folder were kept in the original order in which we received the collection. The collection is arranged into 10 series:
