This collection contains materials relating to the Penguin Dance Club, a Charlotte dance club that was active 1952-1992. Collection materials are dated 1967-1992 and arranged into 6 series:

Series 1, By Laws, 1970-1976, contains by laws and governing documents for the Club.

Series 2: Events, 1970-1992, contains dance committee chairmen forms, programs, and contracts for event spaces.

Series 3: Finance, 1967-1992 contains financial statements, budget reports, and membership dues.

Series 4: Meeting Minutes, 1968-1992, contains annual business meeting minutes and reports.

Series 5: Membership, 1967-1992, contains membership applications, member resignations, and other miscellaneous materials related to who participated in the Club.

Series 6: Photographs, c1985-1990, contains photographs for dances and events hosted by the Club.

Additional Description

Abstract

The Penguin Dance Club was founded in 1952 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The first executive committee included: Fay and Stan Springs, Carmen and Bill Williams, Ouida and John Spillman, Virginia and Paul Hollas (who also served as first presidents), and Rachel and David Hackney. The Penguin Dance Club held annual business meetings and hosted themed dance events throughout the year. After suffering from declining membership, the Penguin Dance Club merged with the Charlotte Dance Club in 1992.

Materials in this collection include by-laws and governing documents, meeting minutes, dance events, membership documents, financial records, and photographs. Materials are dated 1967-1992 and are in good condition.
