The Cornelia Beery Fore Collection,1864-1944 documents the historical interests of Mrs. Cornelia Fore as well as the life of her daughter, also Cornelia Fore. The collection also includes historical information about the United States Civil War, genealogical research into the family’s history, and personal letters.
The Cornelia Beery Fore collection is arranged into seven series:
Series 1: UDC (United Daughters of the Confederacy), 1901-1932, contains speeches, booklets correspondence
Series 2: Civil War Testimonies, 1861-1918, contains Fore’s collection of reminiscences from veterans and women of the confederacy
Series 3: Civil War History, 1861-1946, includes Fore’s historical writings and research
Series 4: Mrs. J. A. Fore (Cornelia), 1883-1941 includes personal letters, newspaper clippings
Series 5: Genealogy, 1898-1959, Fore’s research into the Faure, Davenport, Dunlevy, Roots, Beery and Winfree family trees.
Series 6: Miss Cornelia Fore, 1917-1985, contains letters, travel journals and educational certificates
Series 7: Family, 1865-1975, contains photographs, newspaper clippings and wedding invitations concerning the remaining Fore children- Clyde, James and Eugenia

Biographical / Historical
Cornelia Beery Fore (1864-1947): Cornelia Beery Fore was born in Wilmington, North Carolina in 1864. Her father, Benjamin Beery, was a blockade-runner and constructed ships for the Confederacy. She married James Albert Fore in 1883 and moved to Charlotte in 1899. For eleven years, Fore was the historian of the Stonewall Jackson Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC). She was elected to this same position with the State UDC in 1916 and served for two years. She conducted research into Charlotte role in the civil war and wrote a history of the First Presbyterian Church. She and her husband had four children that survived childhood- James Albert Jr., Cornelia, Clyde and Elizabeth.
Cornelia “Cornie” Fore (1890-1985): The daughter of James Albert and Cornelia Fore, Cornelia was a high school history teacher in Charlotte and volunteered in 1919 with the American Red Cross in the canteen and hospital service stationed in St. Nazaire, France. A graduate of Queen’s College, she also received her master's degree from Columbia University in New York. She was expected to be married to Charles Montgomery Jr., who was killed in battle during World War 1.

Abstract
This collection contains documents that cover Mrs. Cornelia Beery Fore’s (Mrs. J.A. Fore) work as the historian for the United Daughters of the Confederacy. It consists primarily of historical research and collected testimonies pertaining to the United States Civil War as well as genealogical research into Fore’s own lineage. Included as well are letters and other documents from the life of her daughter, Ms. Cornelia (Cornie) Fore. Materials are dated 1864-1944 and are in good condition.
