Content Description

This collection contains Board of Education Annual Reports. Each report includes information on total enrollment, daily attendance statistics, number and names of teachers, Superintendents Report, "Moral Training," and course catalogs for both white and "colored" students. Materials are in good condition, arranged in chronological order, and dated 1890-1940. The bulk of the materials are dated 1890-1924, with 1940 as the outlier.

Biographical / Historical

The Charlotte Mecklenburg School (CMS) system as it is known today was began as a segregated system in 1882, with South School serving white students and Myers Street School for Black students. Prior to CMS, the public education system was known as Charlotte City Schools.
