 Collection
Identifier: MS-2020-022

Content Description

This collection includes arrowheads, spearpoints, and potsherds from several time periods of North Carolina history. These were collected in Iredell and Cabarrus counties by Dr. Maloney from 1967-1970, and identified and arranged by him as well.

There are seven trays of artifacts and four small boxes of potsherds in this donation, including a variety of points, such as those from the Early-Late Archaic (10,000-3,000 years before present), Lecroy (9,000-5,000 BP), Adena Blades (3,000-1,200 BP) and Caraway points (1,000-200 BP), among many others. Dr. Maloney utilized Joffre Lanning Coe’s book The Formative Cultures of the Carolina Piedmont, and Robert M. Overstreet’s Overstreet Identification and Price Guide to Indian Arrowheads, in identifying the items in this collection.
