Biographical / Historical
The first four “Rotarians” were Paul Harris, Gus Loehr, Hiram Shorey, and Silvester Schiele, with Harry Ruggles known as the “fifth Rotarian”. These men met on February 23, 1905 to officially found the Rotary Club, which is now an international organization of service and fellowship. The four key elements of every club include sustaining or increasing the membership base, participating in community service projects, financially supporting The Rotary Foundation, and developing leaders capable of serving in Rotary beyond the club level.
Service projects are planned at the club’s weekly meetings and are carried out at the club level. The goal of the frequent service projects is for members to have the opportunity to learn about their club’s involvement in local and international projects and impact their local/global communities for good.
