Biographical / Historical
In 1928 a group if ten women founded the Ex Libris Club. Early on, there was some debate among the group regarding if this club was a social club or a book club, but ultimately it was decided to be an organized book club. In 1931, membership was increased from eight members to twelve.
Several requirements were outlined for members, one of which was to have an acceptable record of attendance at the meetings. The member was eliminated if they missed three meetings, unless it was for illness. At the meetings, there was a short review given of the book that the group read, which assisted in familiarizing group members with new authors and topics.
