Content Description

The Julia McNinch Camp Greene Scrapbook contains one scrapbook of items kept by Julia McNinch while Camp Greene was in operation during World War I. Some items include cards and letters from soldiers she knew, postcards, songs, stamps, and textiles. An additional item added later is a 1911 letter from Theodore Roosevelt to Julia’s father, Samuel Sylvanus McNinch, who was mayor of Charlotte 1905-1907. The scrapbook is dated 1918 and in good condition.

Abstract

Julia McNinch (1891-1975) was born in 1891 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Samuel Sylvanus McNinch and Julia Magill McNinch. Julia was a schoolteacher and married John Klump Slear of Pennsylvania, who had been a soldier training at Camp Greene. This collection includes one scrapbook with documents, photographs, postcards, songs, stamps, and textiles relating to Camp Greene. The scrapbook is dated 1918 and in good condition.

Arrangement

The materials in the scrapbook are arranged in the original order determined by its creator, Julia McNinch Slear, in 1918.
