Abstract
Between 1584 and 1587, Sir Walter Raleigh attempted to colonize the Outer Banks of North Carolinawith the Roanoke Voyages. To commemorate the 400th anniversary of these voyages, in 1973 the NorthCarolina General Assembly created the America’s Four Hundredth Anniversary Committee, and chargedmembers with planning and carrying out celebrations and events from 1984-1987.
